Happy Holi to everyone !!!

Dear All,

Belated HOLI wishes to you. I wish that like these beautiful colours, there comes happiness in your life and you all keep smiling forever and ever.

Heartfelt apologies for being late, but I’m still sure that you people will accept my GOOD WISHES.

Thank you Gourav & Mradul for HoIi wihes.

HAPPY HOLI once again.

I have been reading your comments and want to share a few more things with you.

Sanitation is one of the major problems which Kota is facing today. After going through all the comments I felt that major thrust should be made in this field.

Here I want to tell you all that recently I visited Ahemdabad and there I had a big discussion about this with Mayor of SURAT, MUMBAI, AHEMDABAD and some other big cities. I learnt that they are following DOOR TO DOOR GARBAGE COLLECTION system, which has been successful in a big way. Not only it helps to keep the place clean but also prevents the city from various diseases. We are also planning to introduce this system in Kota. However, there are some hurdles in this planning also. One of these is DERA SYSTEM being practiced in the major portion of the city. We are trying to convince them that their interests will also be taken care of.

Secondly, a support from your side is also requested. The feedback which I got from our sanitation department is that people throw garbage on the streets after the cleaning process is completed, i.e around 10 AM. This in turn results in dirty streets again. Please throw the in-house garbage before the daily collection time or directly in to the wheel barrow of our employee.

Thirdly also convince other people to practice the same.

We are trying our level best to give best result in the field of sanitation. Your cooperation is required.

Another problem which I came to know in comments is the high beam of the vehicles. I have written a letter to the SP City regarding this and all other road safety related problems.

Recently, many new flyovers are coming in the city which will help to reduce the traffic congestion. We are also planning to widen the roads, clear the stray animals and repairing the pit-holes to manage the traffic properly.

I will get back to all of you soon. Looking forward to your suggestion and a clean and Green Kota.

Yours,

Dr. Ratna Jain

  1. JAI SHRI KRISHNA,

On the occasion of Green Holi, I wish you and your family all the best.

Thanks for reverting back to blog, although we were eagerly waiting for it for long. We know that being a Doctor, you are taking up the issue of cleanliness very seriously.

You wrote about systematizing COLLECTION of garbage; but I say, collection is not a big threat than its final disposal because there is no system of finally disposing the garbage that is collected (even if it is in a planned manner). I hope specialized units are invited to tackle the issue of recycling garbage; simply collection won’t deliver any result.

As far as traffic congestion is concerned, fly-overs can never ease out congestions (this fact is internationally accepted by team of experts). To achieve this goal, better transport system like; RAJHANS and City Transport Service (having fleet of Buses) can be thought of. Mumbai’s BEST is best example to prove this where bridges and fly-overs have hardly any contribution. Efficient city transport system will definitely discourage other mode of transport (Bangalore model) which will finally lead to easing of roads and decongestion.

I am sure above points would be seriously looked into by the team under your able guidance.

  2. You're welcome Madam.

i also want to suggest a solution for traffic and pollution problem.

    pleases read this small article

    1. BICYCLE USE IN URBAN AREAS IN CHINA

    Abstract:
The bicycle is the most important personal mode of transportation in the urban areas of China. Currently, the domestic production of bicycles is not only extensive but also increasing very rapidly. In 1988 more than 310 million bicycles were in use. The causes of the intensive use of bicycles and their effects on urban transportation are identified, and measures to overcome these problems are analyzed on the basis of data from various sources. Several reasons for such intensive use of bicycles include

    (a) poor public transit service,
    (b) the relative cost of private modes of transportation,
    (c) adequate size and shape of cities, and (d) the bicycle's standing as a major industry in China.

Hence, the importance of bicycles as an urban transportation mode is expected to increase.

MY view: i know it looks too impractical and seems to be awkward (not in my view) for our city or country but i think china not bad example (i think it's better to follow good things).

    Why use Bicycles

    1. On-going use of a bicycle has virtually NO carbon footprint.****
    2. You will be a leader in your community.
    3. Bicycles increase mobility for those who don't have access to motor transport.****
    4. Bikes increase mobility for those who don't qualify to drive a car.
    5. Bicycles increase mobility for those who can't afford motor transport.****
    6. Bikes increase mobility for those who don't want to drive motor vehicles.
    7. Bicycling can be faster than walking, transit or motor vehicles.****
    8. Bicycling is the most energy efficient form of transportation ever invented.
    9. You get healthy exercise from bicycling.
    10. Save travel money by biking. If the switch is from a car this includes purchase price, gas, tires, fluids, insurance, maintenance, washing, parking, etc.*******
    11. Reduce stress by bicycling.****
    12. Biking is therapeutic for the mind and spirit -- is fun and can make you happy.****
    13. Cycling is therapeutic for the cardio-vascular system, live healthier.
    14. Regular cycling provides better muscle tone, bone mass improvement, clearer skin ****
    15. Regular bicycling helps with personal weight management -- new full-time bicycle commuters can expect to lose an average 13 pounds their first year of bicycle commuting if they maintain the same eating habits.
    16. Bicycling is a great initial activity for people who are obese and help them on their way to a healthier life.
    17. Regular cycling can lead to lower health care expenses -- save money for a nicer vacation.
    18. Allows the rider to appreciate the more of the nuances of the natural and built environment around them.
    19. Your commute will be the best part of your day instead of the worst part of your day.
    20. The exercise increase your productivity at work****
    21. Cycling improves your self-esteem.****
    22. Primary school students will thing you are "cool" or "hip" or "neat" or "rad" or whatever the current term is. In time even older people might come to appreciate your leadership.
    23. Save on the membership to a health club, get your exercise bicycling to work, school, shopping, etc.
    24. Bicycling is nearly a life-long activity.
    25. Bicycling is a great full family and friends activity.
    26. Cycling is low impact on the body.
    27. Cycling is low impact on the environment****
    28. Bicycling in your neighborhood is a great way to meet your neighbors and build community.
    29. Camaraderie of cyclists makes it a great way to meet a nice stranger with a similar interest.
    30. Bicyclist can ignore the highway traffic jam reports.*********

  3. Similar blog is needed for contacting top police officials of Kota. May I request you kindly to convince IG (Kota range) and SP(City) to create a blog so that we can have our ‘say’ directly and suggest measures to enhance security environment of Kota.

  4. being in academics I feel that we need our youth to be with us.They are unconcerned and becoming self centered.there energy and potential can be used through personal interactions and that is not difficult as we have three big govt.colleges in Kota.If we make them aware of there duties they will certainly can change the destiny of this city.

  9. Hi everyone..

Young generation of the city has wonderful ideas for the betterment of the city. But the practical problem is that I have to work and plan taking in consideration the entire population of the city. Hence, the plans that I have in mind, along with your valuable suggestions need to be implemented slowly and slowly.
But atleast, I am happy that you all are helping me to move in the right direction.
As far as the cycles are concerned, I have seen them in China and Amsterdam. But they have a completely different track for them which is currently lacking in our city. But, the approach is good and whenever we will plan new roads, we will surely take this into consideration.

For, Garbage collection, we have invited teams from different parts of the country. The team of Surat and the other from Banglore has already visited Kota and given their work-plan. The team from Hyderabad is coming on the 10th of March for the same. I am detemined to change the current system.

Dear Prerna, It is true that it is really difficult to introduce any new system without the help of the youth. I would like to come to your college so that we can discuss some suggestions.

Our city has all potential to be much more beautiful than any other city of this world. And, IF WE CAN DREAM IT, WE CAN DO IT !!

  10. It's indeed a pleasure for the city to have a tech-savvy Mayor.I welcome your spirit and always be with your mission.

can we have e-complain registration system in our Nigam,I think that will be useful and rather transparent manner of work.

we can also work with the registered societies of the colonies with there ward members, the idea will serve as local panchayat, that can impose some local penalties against the ill practices of garbage disposal.Event local parks can convert the degradable dump as bio-fertilizers for there local needs.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Three principles of RRR (reduce, reuse and recycle), SAS (segregate at source), and PP (polluter pays) can work like a charm for our garbage related problems

    ReplyDelete
  12. You are absolutely right madam, definitely you r facing realistic hurdles at the ground level when u want to implement a plan, so only giving ideas is very easy thing.

You want to hire expertise to collect the garbage. As well as u also think on to recycle, treatment-plant, decomposition, processing or convert as byproduct of garbage.

Gau-Shalas ( Byre) should not be dependent on any donation they should remain as self-made organization or industry. We can develop to a bare as a dairy-plant, Manure- industry (Bio-fertilizer), cow- based medicines plant, etc. so byre is not bother on as although they can provide employment because the research shows a native ( dasi ) cow can earn near about 40/- Rs. Per day. Therefore, we just need planning for byres.

    Thanking you

  13. Wishing all women a Happy Womens Day

    First IWD

The first IWD was held on March 19, 1911 in Germany, Austria, Denmark and some other European countries. This date was chosen by German women because, on that date in 1848, the Prussian king, faced with an armed uprising, had promised many reforms, including an unfulfilled one of votes for women. A million leaflets calling for action on the right to vote were distributed throughout Germany before IWD in 1911.

I wish to thank the many unnamed women whose work has made this story of IWD possible, as well as those mentioned in it, particularly:

    Marie Gollan

    Nell Johns
    Mary Wright

    Eva Bacon
    Vera Deacon
    Phyllis Johnson

I also thank the women who preserved many of these events on film - some of their names have been mentioned, but others have been lost in the files of publications, and their photos are only identified by the name of the publication in which they appeared.

Finally, I thank Philippa Hall, Dianne Court and Shelley Kay for their many helpful criticisms and suggestions as the outline of this story unfolded. I do not hold them responsible in any way for its inadequacies, but it is infinitely better because of their help. Thanks to Gloria Garton for her patient typesetting, final brushing up on spelling and grammar, Shelley for her beautiful lay-out and Jane Inglis for her help in sub-editing.

  14. Few years back, I was told by some elderly person (who is no more today) to burn used polythene bags in earthen pot (मटका). I don’t know why he told me this but as a mark of respect towards him, I started this. The result was encouraging as till now, I am able to destroy kilos and kilos of Polythene bags, which has so far found their way into my home. It really gives me and my family, great satisfaction and pleasure on doing so as if we have conquered the battle against Enemy (since I am perturbed to see cows consuming Polythene bags in streets leaving me helpless and watch merely like a spectator). I also know that we Indians are hypocrites when it comes to practice good things. Our approach towards cleanliness is only visible on TV or on the Net (we are well aware of our ground realities).

All over the world, we are known for loving animals, especially worshipping Cows and caring for them (I don’t know why. Had cows not been giving us Milk, their fate would have been even worse. I see similar condition of elderly people, the treatment they normally get from their younger generation. I am sorry to bring irrelevant issue here, but I am hurt to see all this) Frankly speaking, we are the people who behave in a filthiest manner with our pets.

Coming back to subject, in Indian context, at present, it is not possible for us to prevent this intruder (Polythene) coming into our homes. I convinced most of the neighbours in my colony and large number of people who are working for protection of environment, to adapt this new technique to contribute towards “Pollution Control” and which costs no money.

Initially, I was questioned about air pollution that it would create on burning Polythene but on regularly searching on the Net, I found out a way. I convinced questioners that technology to absorb CO2 from air is already there and is working satisfactorily and therefore they need not worry. No doubt, Scientists are capable to find out solution to every problem but, it is upto Industrialists and Politicians (whether it suits them or not) to implement.

With this article, I am seeking likeminded people’s cooperation to spread this idea all over India. I am sure, sensitive citizen of my country will definitely extend their helping hand using credit of their popularity. Details to absorb CO2 can be viewed here :-

  17. I welcome your your efforts to make your staff to get exposure to a new culture of work.I wish Surat will inspirer them to change the Surat of this city too. I hope all will take it with good spirit especially those who are enjoying the perks with no efforts at all.Nigam safai karmchri kaum should realize what they done to the city, they just made it open dustbin. They are highly indisciplined and irresponsible.
Please do impose some penalties on them who blocks the roads during the construction and then left the remains on the public areas.
Also request you to consider my proposal of making the e- complain system as practiced in RSEB ,and some other places.

  18. I still believe that The main reason behind huge amount of society problems is
    "OUR irresponsible attitude".

1.The PENALTY SYSTEM works very well at first but As the time goes on it becomes clear that the level of enforcement was very low or not in right direction.

2.we also have to ensure presence of PAPER WORK In case of a power failure.

summary: Repair existing system first than add new subsystem(if necessary)

i agree that we can also add new subsystems BUT only if it can surely repair existing system.

  19. Great step to clean the city!I hope you will be able to keep the pace.
I think we indians are specialist of performing "emotional atyachar".This in genuine urge keep people allowing ATICRAMAN in every sphere of life.No concept of public place,no civic sense, self interests and above all lack of will turn the surroundings not less then a dustbin.
    So go ahead..........
